# Recap

> Recap is a screen and camera recorder for Mac and Windows with instant share links, made by Ampersand in Zürich, Switzerland. Record your screen, camera and voice, send a link, and viewers watch in the browser, react with emoji at the exact second and leave timestamped comments, without an account. The desktop apps are free; Recap Cloud (share links and storage) is a subscription.

## What it does

- Records screen, camera and microphone (and optionally computer sound) from a menu bar app on macOS and a tray app on Windows
- Modes: screen + camera bubble, screen only, or camera only; full screen, a single window or a custom area
- Draw on screen while recording; pause, restart or cancel from a floating control bar; global keyboard shortcuts
- Saves every recording on the computer for free
- With Recap Cloud: uploads while you finish, copies a share link immediately, shows who watched, and collects emoji reactions and timestamped comments
- Videos can be shared with anyone who has the link or kept private, and downloads can be turned off
- Shared videos are not indexed by search engines; data is stored in Europe

## Pricing

- Desktop apps for Mac and Windows: free (recording and saving locally)
- Recap Cloud: CHF 12 per month, 100 GB of video storage included (about 24 hours at 1080p), then CHF 0.15 per extra GB per month. Prices exclude VAT. Cancel any time; after cancelling, videos stay online for 30 days.

## FAQ

### Is the app free?

Yes. Recording your screen and camera and saving videos on your computer is free on Mac and Windows. You only pay to upload to Recap Cloud for share links.

### Which computers does Recap run on?

Recap has native apps for macOS 15 or later (Apple silicon and Intel) and for Windows 10 (version 2004) and Windows 11, 64-bit. Viewers watch in any browser, including on phones.

### Do viewers need an account or a subscription?

No. Anyone with the link can watch and react for free. Commenting needs a free account so you know who said what.

### How much video fits in 100 GB?

About 24 hours at 1080p, or more than twice that at 720p. A typical 3-minute update is around 200 MB.

### How is extra storage measured?

Once a day we add up the size of your videos. Each day above 100 GB is billed at a thirtieth of CHF 0.15 per extra GB, so deleting videos lowers your bill right away.

### Can I keep a video private?

Yes. Switch a video to "Only me" and the link stops working for everyone else. You can also turn downloads off. Shared videos are never listed in search engines.

### Where are my videos stored?

In Europe. Recap is built and run by Ampersand in Zürich, Switzerland.

### Can I cancel?

Any time, from Settings › Billing. Uploads keep working until the end of the period you paid for. After that your videos stay online for another 30 days, so you can download them, and are then deleted. We email you before that happens.
